Surface Preparation & Problem Resolution: Your Guide to Perfect Walls

Whether you’re dealing with new walls, previously painted surfaces, or problem areas like cracks and damp, this guide will walk you through the process step by step. Let’s get started!
For New Walls
Cement Plaster
Check the plaster:
Ensure the plaster is completely dry. Allow at least 21 days for curing, especially for slabs.
Clean the surface:
Remove all loose material to create a smooth base.
Prime the wall:
Apply one coat of Olympic All-in-One Plaster Primer. This serves as a sealer, primer, and first coat all in one.
Top it off:
Finish with two coats of a recommended Olympic topcoat:
Interior:
Olympic Natural Elegance.
Exterior:
Olympic Rugged Beauty or Olympic Suburban Bliss (suitable for both interior and exterior).
Facia Boards
Prepare the surface:
Remove all loose material.
Apply an undercoat:
Use one coat of Olympic Universal Undercoat in white.
Finish with style:
Apply two coats of a recommended Olympic topcoat.
For Previously Painted Walls
In Good Condition (Painted with Enamel)
Light sanding:
Lightly sand the glossy surface to ensure good adhesion.
Clean thoroughly:
Use clean water and a general-purpose cleaning solution.
Choose your finish:
If using enamel: Apply two coats of Olympic Ultimate Shine Enamel.
If switching to acrylic PVA:
Apply one uniform coat of Olympic Universal Undercoat in white, followed by two coats of a recommended topcoat (Olympic Natural Elegance, Rugged Beauty, or Suburban Bliss).
In Good Condition (Painted with PVA)
Prepare the surface:
Remove any loose material.
Clean thoroughly:
Use clean water and a general-purpose cleaning solution.
Prime and paint:
Apply one coat of Olympic Hi Hiding Acrylic PVA as an undercoat, then finish with two coats of a recommended topcoat.
For Problematic Surfaces
Flaking or Chalking Paint
Remove loose paint:
Use a scraper and sand with the appropriate grit sandpaper.
Clean the surface:
Wash with clean water and a general-purpose cleaning solution.
Prime accordingly:
For PVA: Apply one coat of Olympic Bonding Liquid.
For enamel: Apply a uniform coat of Olympic Universal Undercoat in white.
Finish strong:
Apply two coats of a recommended topcoat.
Cracks
Prep the surface:
Remove all loose material.
Fill the cracks:
Use Olympic Crack Filler for hairline cracks. Allow it to dry and sand smooth.
Paint it perfect:
Apply two coats of a recommended topcoat.
Damp Walls
Fix the source:
Identify and resolve the cause of dampness. Allow the surface to dry completely.
Clean thoroughly:
Use a wire brush and a general-purpose cleaning solution.
Seal the damp:
Follow the directions on your chosen damp seal product.
Prime accordingly:
For PVA: Apply Olympic Bonding Liquid.
For enamel:
Apply Olympic Universal Undercoat in white.
Finish with care:
Apply two coats of a recommended topcoat.
